I have two Barbie outfits I haven't been able to find in any of the books on clothing or online. They are both probably late 60's/early 70's. One is a pink satin/white lace evening gown with gold booties with pink flowers. The other is a sleeveless yellow tunic dress with red lace trim with matching jacket hat, yellow stockings and yellow pilgrim shoes. Appreciate any help I can get. Thanks.

I would like a little more info on this vintage gown. I'm not even sure if it is Barbie brand. The top is a velvety red, and the bottom of the dress is white with red polka dots. Thanks so much!
Hi Sara -
This is not a Mattel Vintage Barbie Dress. Is there any kind of tag? In the 1960s many of us also had homemade Barbie clothes as many of our mothers were very skilled seamstresses. It is a lovely dress, none-the-less!

Hello! Got this along with a Walk Lively Steffie on ebay, and have no clue as to its identity. The back has a plunging cut that ends at the lower back. The bodice has intricate detailing, and the skirt is made out of pink silk. It really is an impressive dress, and I am not entirely sold on the idea that it is a clone dress simply because the construction is so well done.
Any ideas?
Hi Jamie -
I don't recognize this - what type of fabric is the top made of? I assume there is no tag since you didn't mention it. Maybe someone else will recognize it.

This was one of my favorite Barbie outfits from childhood late 60's - early 70's). It's not in great condition, but would love to know if it is an actual Barbie brand outfit. I got most of my Barbie stuff from Sears. Thank you!

Hi, Just thought I would ask if anyone could identify this eggshell-white gown. No tag. The bodice is a silvery lame, and the skirt a satin-y material with chiffon overlay. It has 2-snap closure in back. The bodice is reminiscent of the Midnight Blue bodice material. Any ideas?

Please help me identify the pink and gold striped bathing suit. It has a YKK zipper on the back and no tags inside. The outside is ruff because the sparkly gold is slightly raised from the Pink. The inside is a smooth silky pink. Not sure if it is Barbie or not, but thought I should start here because all the other ones it came with was Barbie, skipper or Tammy outfits.
Hi Terry -
This is so similar to the Barbie Fashion Queen original swimsuit, I would assume it is a "knock-off" or clone. Maybe someone else will recognize it.

I have never seen anything like this before, but it comes from when I was a kid. I was born in 71' but didn't start playing with Barbies until about 4 or 5. I have pictures that are even closer up to show the details on the sheer, see through material. It has clasps in the back, since velcro wasn't around then. Any idea what this outfit was called?
Any help is appreciated.

At an auction last year, I purchased a Bubblecut Barbie that was wearing a wedding gown and little acetate(?) gloves. Underneath she was wearing a strapless bra and matching panties (sort of like tap pants). The odd thing is that there were no fasteners, so I had to "cut" (just a little bit at a seam) to remove the items. I was thinking that it made be homemade since there are no tags or fasteners, but I wouldn't think that something homemade would have the gloves or little necklace (or hair ornament, whatever it is!). I am attaching a picture. Items are yellowed due to age. If anyone recognizes these items, I would really appreciate their input. Thank you.
Hi -
I have seen this exact style dress before - I am fairly certain it is homemade - it must have been one of the vintage Barbie patterns that were available at the time. The gloves & necklace were probably genuine Barbie from another outfit.

Hi - I'm hoping you can help me. I have several pairs of the squishy ankle pixie boots that were produced ona blisterpack in (I think) 1967/8.
Some are in fluorescent yellow... pink... orange, while others are non fluo-red, green, grey.
Please could you look at the picture I am attaching and tell me - are these the florescent type yellow ones? Did they ever make a more 'standard' opaque yellow version? The fluorescent yellow ones of course have that very faint green tinge of colour that all fluo yellow had in that period. (rather like markerpens)
Thank you so much, God bless you

I just got these but don't know the names of any. If I could get the names and possibly the year they came out that would be great.
Top row: left black label with white B right white label with barbie written out
second row all hot pink label with white letter B
Hi Diane -
These are not vintage Barbie items from 1959 to 1974 - I believe the B tags are much more recent.

Hi, I need some help with these clothes. I bought a large clothing lot and am having trouble IDing these pieces. This is only a few of them. Are they barbie or clone pieces? No tags in any of them. Thanks in advance.
Hi Marie -
I do not recognize any of the items as vintage barbie and/or Friends/Family items. They could be later items, homemade items or clone items, or a mixture of all. The pink velvet jacket is from 1984 Day to Night Barbie. I don't recognize anything else.

Does anyone recognize this piece? Looks to be a peignoir "robe." Lace exterior with sheer lining. "Fur" cuffs (sheepskin-like fabric). Three snap closure. Is not tagged, but came with a group of 60s Barbie items. Thanks.!
Hi Judy -
This looks like the robe from Pink Moonbeams to me, but it had feather trim, not fur and no snaps, so I'm stumped!

I would like your help in identifying this Barbie outfit please. It is from the early 60's. I lived in England and i got on of the "new" Blond Barbies and a lot of outfits. I do not know if this outfit goes together; it was the outfit that was on her when i packed her to leave home 30 years ago. The dress is really a beautiful cut and has very small machine stitches. The fur wrap, to me, looks like rabbit with a small seed pearl fastening that has come away.
Hope you can help,
Sara
Hi Sara -
I do not recognize these - I suspect they are homemade - do they have tags? The vintage Barbie white rabbit stoles all had tags and were lined in pink satin except for Gay Parisienne, which was lined in white satin and had no tag.
I do not know of any stoles that had anything besides a hook-and-eye closure.
But there were different things for the European market, so I could be wrong. I'm sure others will share their opinions in the comments!

Hi,
I have finally decided to sort out my childhood possesions. I have been able to identify my 2 vintage dolls from your website (which is fantastic by the way) and along with them was a variety of clothing, some of which I have also identified. However this selection do not have any labels and I would be grateful for any help you are able to offer as to whether they are Barbie outfits. They would have been purchased in the UK in the late 60's/early 70's.
Kind regards,

Can anyone identify anything here? Thanks so much for your help.
Hi Vicki -
I remember having items similar to these with my Barbie Dolls in the mid 60s. They are not Mattel items, but they are "vintage". I don't know who made them - they may have been from the Barbie "clones" made in that era.

Hi -
I don't recognize the dress - does it have the black & white cloth vintage Barbie tag? What type of closure does it have in the back? Does anyone else recognize it?
(My first thought was that is was probably a Mod pak dress - where they used all different fabric combos - but I can't find anything on it.)

I am trying to find name of a Barbie I received as a child. She was a sandy blonde ponytail, with curly bangs, I got this for Christmas 1963-64 not sure which. She had on a red short dress, long sleeve v-back with one snap at waist, the top of the dress was a knit with silver or gold thread woven in it the bottom was red satin. Very Short. I want this doll and don't know what she was. My sister got the black hair doll and I had the blonde. Please help if you can.
Hi Sharon -
The dolls sounds like a Ponytail Barbie, but I cannot place the dress. Does anyone recognize this dress by the description?
Thanks

Initially thought it was called "Enchanted Evening", with the white fur stole. The gown isn't the same though. What I have is from the early 1960's, for a Barbie. The description is a long white satin, sleeveless gown with slight train in the back. It has one snap in the back. The satin material includes a netting underneath. The satin material has no pattern in it. The gown came with a white fur stole. I am unsure of all the other items included. I am 100% certain this is a genuine outfit for Barbie, but it doesn't have any type of label on it.
I appreciate any help I can get. In the middle of organizing collection to sell.
Thanks in advance,
Cathie Murphey
Hi Cathie -
Nothing comes to mind from your description - without a picture it is very difficult to know. All of the Barbie dresses from the 1960s are listed on the site - so you should be able to find it. It may be a homemade dress - they were very common in the early 1960s and many are made very well.

Hi Again,
I still haven't washed that smokey "Movie Groovie." I am still trying to find out if it is considered ruined already before I wash it. I just bought a "Special Sparkle" coat #1468 and it seems stiff. Any more thoughts on to wash vs. not to wash? Does it still have any value? Should I just try to find a new one in better condition?
Still new at this so I am probably making a lot of mistakes. Does anyone have recommendations of what kind of stand to purchase? Any comments appreciated.

The top is a multicolor painters smock with orange and yellow. Comes with orange capri pants, with a painters palette and tiny brush. This outfit has the black and white vintage Barbie label. I've never seen it in any books, but I'm assuming it may be a foreign outfit. Perhaps France? I don't have a picture because I do not own the outfit. It belongs to a friend's sister in law. Any ideas anyone?
Hi Bonnie -
I am not familiar with it. If it was for Francie, it would have a Francie tag, not a Barbie tag. Maybe someone else will know. If you could provide a picture that would help a lot.

Hi Mary -
The original Barbie tags were white cloth tags with black writing. They were used through the 1972. For a while after that there were no tags. Later the tags had Genuine Barbie on them. Vintage Reproductions have the same White & Black cloth tag as vintage with the word Reproduction under the Barbie name. I don't know as much as I should about tags after the vintage era - maybe someone else can help us out?

Hi, I love your site! It's helped me many times to identify a clothing piece. Now, I'm stumped! I have what looks like a coat or suit collar or hat. It's a black/brown leopard print on a beige velvety background and lined in burgundy satin with burgundy satin ties, and no tag. I'm sorry for the lack of photos. Could this be a Skipper piece? I'd appreciate any info you can give me. Thank you.
Hi Janice -
Does it have a label? Almost all vintage Barbie & family coats have labels, because the label was in the outermost piece of the ensemble. The description doesn't ring any bells with me - we'll see if anyone else recognizes it - but we really need a picture.

I bought this Barbie awhile back. Her butt is stamped Midge Barbie. I was just wondering if the dress is handmade or not. She also has a slip and underwear. Part of the veil seems to be connected to her head with a string and then there is the mesh part that goes over that. The dress doesn't have any tag in it. It's off white. Thank You!
Hi Linda -
I have never seen it before - I would guess, as you did, that it is homemade.

Hallo,
My mum bought this beautiful shoes for my vintage barbie doll on ebay and I'd like to know it they are made by Mattell and to which outfit they match.
They are white, and "elastic", both are marked "japan" and have two little round holes on the bottom.
They do fit my 1694 bubblecut.
Do you know them?
Anna :)
Hi Anna -
I do not think these are Barbie or Mattel boots - they must belong to another fashion doll or Barbie "clone". We'll see if anyone can identify them.
