I would like to purchase a vintage blonde Skipper doll. Does anyone have any tips for me. What should I be looking for. I do not want to spend my $ on a reproduction.
Hi Lorelei -
First I would recommend that you visit the Vintage Skipper page to familiarize youself with the vintage characteristics and markings of the doll.
It is possible to acquire a Skipper in excellent condition at a reasonable price. The better the condition, the higher the price - so you will have to decide your price range - as they are available at every price point.
The first thing you will want to check is her face paint - it should be intact with little to minimal "rubs" (or missing paint).
Next is her hair - Skipper should have long, straight, silky, shiny hair. However, if her hair is uncut it is easy to restore to a "factory mint look" with a gentle shampoo and a Downy (fabric softener) rinse!
Finally, Skipper's original headband was brass and can cause the same greening as on some vintage Barbie doll's ears from earrings at her temples - so you want to check and make sure there is no green and that the doll has never been treated for green. Or if there is that you are aware of it, OK with it and the price is adjusted accordingly.
If you want to have the doll's original outfit and accessories, you will have to decide if you will only purchase a doll that includes them, or if you are willing to purchase them separately.
To get an idea of the pricing, you can browse completed listings on ebay.
Good luck with your search!

Any one remember her back in the 60's?
Here you go. There is also a picture of her on this page Skipper Dolls - just scroll down a bit.
One of these days I will get her added to the site!

I've looked everywhere. The closest I can come to a name for this group is the Sears exclusive Young Ideas #1513. I've read it came in varied fabrics, but the only 2 pieces I've been able to find on the internet is the blue party dress with the gold wrapped gift. It's supposed to come with 2 pairs of flat shoes marked "Taiwan", but I have several different colors, so I'm not sure what colors go with this particular grouping. It seems like there are so many different colors. These are all my Skipper clothes from childhood, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Bye the way, I LOVE this website - Thank You!!!
Hi Joy -
Thanks! Young Ideas was a Sears Exclusive sold from 1970 to 1973. It did come in a variety of fabrics. The set included:
A faux fur coat with vinyl trim
A three piece suit that included a jacket, mini-skirt with vinyl waistband and sleeveless knit shell
Shorts with a Ruffled Top
Pantyhose
Knit Knee Socks
Two pairs of shoes
Jump Rope
Party Invitation
Gold Wrapped Gift
So it looks like you almost have the complete set! I don't know what color shoes came with which - because there were so many variations.

I thought that this was Skipper, but cannot find a doll that looks quite like her. She is 9" tall and marked "Mattel, Inc. 1967" on her lower back, and has painted eyelashes, not rooted. Blue eyes, brown brows, and pink lips. She has the TNT waist I think. Thank you for any info!
Hi Carolyn -
She is definitely a Skipper. I think she must be a Malibu Skipper. Malibu Skipper was made from 1971 to 1977, so there would be many variations out there. I cannot find any other Skipper that even comes close.
Anyone else think anything differently?

This Skipper doll is marked 1963. She has very full red pigtails and freckles. I thought I'd saved all the original clothes, but can't find a swimsuit for her. Was she ever sold with an outfit besides a swimsuit?
It sounds like you have Skipper's friend Skooter. Skooter had the same body as Skipper and wore Skipper's clothes.

I thought this pre-teen doll was Malibu Skipper, but she doesn't match the doll on your site. Do you know who she is? She is marked 1957 Mattel Inc., U.S. Pat. Pend., Made in hong Kong.
-----------------
This is a Malibu Skipper - they were made from 1971 to 1977. The date of her marking should be 1967, not 1957.

Hi everyone, I have been going nuts trying to find this doll's name and age. She has the same face as a Skipper from 1975 #7379 Gold Medal. She is 9.5" tall, butt says Mattel 1967 Hong Kong U.S. for Pat. Her breasts seem to be hollow (they sort of collapses and then bounce back) and she twists at the waist. She was with several other vintage barbies (#6 ponytail, Skipper in original suit, Midge, 2 original Ken's, Allan, etc) so I feel she is worth searching for. I can provide any other pictures needed. Thank you all in advance for any help you can provide!! :)
Thanks again,
Paula
Hi Paula -
This is Growing Up Skipper from 1974 - 1975. You do turn her arm and it makes her breasts "grow".

Question:
This small doll reads Mattel inc 1978 on her back. She has long blonde hair and is considerably smaller than Barbie. Part of her hair is bangs, she has no ear piercings and she does twist and turn.No bendable legs.
Answer:
Hi Bonnie -
Your doll looks like a mid-1980s Skipper doll, specifically the "1984 Skipper" head (and the head is probably marked on the inner rim). Her hair looks red in the photo - but if she is blonde, she is most likely "Jewel Secrets Skipper" from 1986 - she had blonde curly hair.
It looks like she is wearing the outfit from "Astronaut Barbie" - 1985.

The photo shows a British Sindy doll on the right - but is the doll on the left Skipper? So sorry but I don't have the doll with me right now to check markings, it is being kept somewhere else! I would be really grateful if you could tell if this is Barbie or her little sister. Thanks for your help.
I believe it is a later (post mid-1970s Skipper) - if you will add the markings I can tell for sure.

I have 4 vintage barbie type dolls, two I believe are skipper, one is a little boy with painted on hair, and the other I haven't a clue. She has dark brown hair with a curl/clip, very expressive eyes, and has breasts.
Unfortunately no clothing with these.
Any help would be apprecitated - I'm just cleaning out the kids room here and wanted to know if there was any value to them. Yes, ready instructions to check on ebay for that. Thanks so much for any help
Eve
The boy is Skipper's friend, Ricky. I don't know who the one with breasts is - the other two are Skipper.
